Ck 12: Metallic Bonds

Curated by ACT

[Free Registration/Login may be required to access all resource tools.] In the following online tutorial, students will begin to describe the electron-sea model of metallic bonding. They will explain how metallic bonding is responsible for the conductivity and luster of metals and learn why metals are malleable and ductile, while crystalline ionic compounds are not. The tutorial also describes how metal atoms are arranged, including the three most common packing systems and it helps students dentify some common alloys and their importance.
