Instructional Ideas

  • Include in a homework packet over winter break
  • Have class members complete the activity as an exit ticket after a lesson on parts of speech

Classroom Considerations

  • Uses traditional Christmas holiday imagery (e.g. candy canes, stockings, holly)
  • Though nouns on the worksheet are not intended to match the images, the discrepancy may be confusing to some learners
  • Each candy cane uses a different pattern; clarify this use to class members who are trying for a more common striped pattern

Pros

  • Promotes both language arts skills and coloring skills
  • Produces a lovely piece of holiday artwork

Cons

  • Contains a typo in the instructions that cannot be changed
