Begin with an introduction to famous deep-sea submersibles. Learners work in groups to gather information on different vessels and then share with the class. Each group then uses water displacement to help calculate the density of different objects. Densities from each group are displayed so that individuals may graph the class data. The findings are applied to the density of submersibles. They also discuss how pumping water or air in and out can control the sinking and rising.
