De Paul University: Center for Urban Education: The Boy Who Cried "Wolf!" [Pdf]

Curated by ACT

"The Boy Who Cried 'Wolf!'" is a one page, folktale about a boy who got bored while watching his sheep. He cried, "Wolf" and when the village people came to help him, he laughed. He repeated this a few days later, but then when he really needed help, no one came. It is followed by questions which require students to provide evidence from the story; it includes: determining the lesson learned and underlining supporting text. This passage aligns with Common Core Anchor Reading Standards 1 requiring close reading, textual evidence, main idea, and summarizing. It also provides a link for fiction reading graphic organizer resources.
