Keeping a journal can be one of the most enjoyable writing tasks that children engage in. They get to write about what they want to write about - not what the teacher tells them to write about! Here, young writers pretend they are a character from a favorite story. They write a journal entry from that character's point of view. The teacher reads all of the entries, and the class tries to guess what character "wrote" each entry. Very good idea!
