Dr. Seuss's ABC Book is used to help young readers distinguish between the letters of the alphabet and their letter sounds. After a discussion reviewing the letters that are vowels and consonants, the book is read to the class. Then, the kids go on an alphabet scavenger hunt in which they look for items in the classroom that begin with each of the letters. After 15 minutes or so, everyone comes back together and shares the items they found that matched up with each letter. A terrific way to reinforce the letters.
