Design and build a rover ... then eat it? This activity has groups of two design and build Mars rovers. The teams determine what instruments they want to include with their rover and plan a budget. They calculate the cost of the body of their rover based upon its size and materials and adjust their design in order to stay within budget. After building their edible rovers, they present the models and explain the parts.

  • Have individual teams research rovers so they can decide what instruments and body structure they want to include in their design

Classroom Considerations

  • Gather the candies/cookies needed to build the rover
  • If your class members are in different math classes, you should decide whether everyone is going to use the same math worksheet or if they are going to use the worksheet based on what math class they are currently taking
  • The 7th installment in a 13-part series

Pros

  • All the handouts are in both PDF and doc format, which allows for easy editing
  • The mathematics worksheets are course specific for high school math classes
