Take the concept of burning calories to a more literal level in the second of seven lessons about energy in the realm of food and fitness. Using simple materials, groups will burn breakfast cereal and a pecan to see which one gives off more heat, recording all data on the provided worksheet. The instructions may be a little difficult to understand regarding the set up for the investigation, so watching the teacher prep video will be helpful.
Note: for younger grades, do the activity as a demonstration to prevent potential injury or fire.
