Montuemhat served the Nubian Kings Taharqa and Tanutamun of the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty. Montuemhat became the ruler of Upper Egypt down to El-Ashmunein, or Hermopolis. Later, in the time of Psammetik the First of the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty, Montuemhat was officially the highest authority in Thebes.
