Ethnic Groups of Utah

Young historians take an in-depth look at the five freedoms granted by the First Amendment. Groups apply their knowledge of the freedoms to a series of scenarios to decide if the depicted actions represent a violation of the amendment.

Students discuss the many cultures of the people of Utah. They create a database of the family backgrounds of students in the class. They record the major contributions of each ethnic group and display them on a quilt.

Students research the basic cultural information available on the various Native American cultures of Utah. They investigate the historical time period, shelters, weapons, tools, foods and methods of obtaining food.

Students discuss and examine various types of dwellings of Native American Tribes of Utah, and create dioramas showing at least one type of Native American dwelling.

Students understands important issues, events and individuals of the 20th Century and can summarize the contributions of people of various racial and ethnic groups in the development of Texas and the United States.
