This particular instructional activity was written by the National Earth Science Teachers Association, but density is a concept that you can teach at the beginning of the school year in your life, physical, or earth science classes. It would be fun to give lab groups the directions for the activity and let them try it, or you could perform it as a demonstration. Five discussion points are provided to follow the activity specifically relating the differing densities of salt and freshwater to they dynamics of an estuary.
