Twelfth graders examine Thomas King's "A Seat in the Garden" for the motivations and effects of subversive writing and the literary techniques used to accomplish the style. In this literary analysis lesson plan, 12th graders examine the concept of subversive literature and explaining the purposes of this form in writing. Students analyze the function of the first nation's literature within the Canadian context and complete an assessment of the racial implications.
