If you want to focus on critical thinking skills, this well-constructed series of activities will challenge your history or agriculture class to evaluate the effectiveness of administrative decisions related to agricultural and the economy, and assess the impact of technological advancements on society. It could take up to a week to complete, but all of the necessary resources are included. To begin, students are provided some historical context related to the environment and economics. They then examine political decision-making regarding this topic, as well as risk assessment. Next, learners work collaboratively to determine whether a product should be banned. They explore the economics surrounding American-made versus foreign-made products and then create a concept map that traces products back to its source(s).
