Instructional Ideas

  • Randomly assign an emotion to each participant, after they've drawn their monster face, challenge the class to guess the emotion by looking at its features
  • Copy cards onto cardstock, then laminate them, direct pupils to draw using a dry-erase marker for easy cleaning and continued use
  • As a reference tool while they draw, invite learners to look at a mirror, and make faces to get an up-close look at their expressions

Classroom Considerations

  • Pupils should be familiar with the list of emotions
  • Requires copies—three pages, front and back

Pros

  • Strengthens social-emotional development, particularly self-awareness
  • Encourages class members to examine a wide range of emotions

Cons

  • None
