Here is a good interdisciplinary project that combines creative and narrative writing with studies of the Holocaust. Your young historians will compose a diary of experiences from the perspective of an individual living during the time period, with each entry based on a particular event or situation, such as life in the Jewish ghettos or Kristallnacht.

Pros

  • Opportunity for learners to gain a deeper understanding of this period of history through narrative writing
  • Additional materials, such as rubric and writing prompts, are organized and thorough

Cons

  • Diary prompts found in additional materials mention using video clips that you will not have access to, so diary entries will need to depend on the reading materials as well as any supplemental information or videos you choose to include
