Identify the Element of Line

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Students explore the element of "line." In this beginning art lesson, students listen to the book Harold and the Purple Crayon, then describe the types of lines Harold drew. Students identify straight lines,  jagged lines, curvy lines, and squiggly lines in the book and around the classroom. Students draw contour lines on a huge piece of paper to create a line mural. A resource list of books and artists that use age-appropriate examples of "line" is included.
