Identifying Primary Source Documents
Who is Mary Maverick and why is she important? the focus of this, the second in a series of five lessons that are designed to introduce middle schoolers to how historians use primary source documents to understand the past, is on how to distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
- Prepare a list of historical figures from your state and/or locale that kids could research through primary source materials
- Extra preparation time will need to be set aside to collect examples of the various types of primary and secondary source materials
