Scholars look at the connections between identity and labels, assumptions, and stereotypes, in a lesson that examines identity in the United States. To set the stage for a discussion of these connections, class members analyze a cartoon, watch a satirical video, and read a story about a girl who radically changes her appearance. For homework, pupils then craft a reflection in response to the question of how labels, assumptions, and stereotypes affect not only how others think of them but also affect how they think about themselves.
