Start your alphabet study strong using these strategies combining pronunciation, recognition, letter sound, and word examples focused on the letter a. Scholars examine the letter shape and listen to you pronounce the /aaa/ sound. As you explain how this sound is made, they try it out on their own. Brainstorm words that begin with this phoneme and challenge kids to a fast-thinking letter-recognition game. Pupils watch as you point to letters one at a time; if you point to an a they say its sound. For all other letters, they stay silent. The pronunciation guide isn't worth your time for this one, but the letter cards may be helpful.
