Invertible or Not?

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet
This Invertible or Not? activity also includes:

What determines whether a function has an inverse? Learners investigate that criteria when they examine values in a partially completed input-output table for two different functions. The task is to complete the table so that one of the functions is invertible and the other is not. Pupils also graph the functions, use their graphs to explain which function has an inverse and why, and discuss the real-life situations in which their functions might represent. The activity concludes with reading values of inverse functions from the table and interpreting the values within the context of the problem. The exercise is appropriate for instruction or assessment.
