Young geologists learn how to use an identification key in order to classify rocks. The key is designed to help them classify rocks into three types: ignesous, metamorphic, and sediimentary. After an initial teacher-led demonstration, pupils get into groups and are given many samples of rocks. They use the rock key, which is embedded in the plan, to attempt to put each rock in the correct category.
