Lesson Plan 18: Art Project! Design Your Own Book Cover

Finished your novel? What’s next? Designing the book cover, of course. But how to begin? After examining the covers of published books and noting the common elements of these jackets, young novelists design a front and back cover for their novel. Guide your class through the process of designing a front cover image, a summary of their story, an author bio, and words of praise for their story. The completed jackets are then shared with the class. As an alternative, have your pupils design a new cover for a book they have read and enjoyed.
