Young scholars compare and contrast concepts of the civil rights movement to the concepts presented in the short story, "The Circuit." In groups, they sort a series of ideas written on index cards into two categories - rights and freedoms. Students create posters expressing a definition of civil rights. In pairs, they read the story and write seven word summaries every few paragraphs.
