The Very Hungry Caterpillar is the inspiration for this project-based learning activity. Kindergartners create a lifecycle chart for a butterfly with four sections: egg, caterpillar, pupa, and butterfly. It is a three-dimensional masterpiece with a fun objects glued on for each of the four stages. Although an hour is the projected duration, the suggestion to break this into two 30-minute sessions is sound advice for this age group. Supplemental books, ideas, and questions create a fun experience that will last longer than just an hour.
