Loyalists and Loyalism in the American Revolution

Students identify and analyze how ideologies were constructed before and during the Revolutionary War, how and why some revolutionaries turned into Whig patriots fighting against the British Empire, while others asserted loyalist to Britain. Students explore the experience of African-American slaves and free blacks as loyalists. Students participate in a web-based game that allows each to explore the conflicting motivations that pitted one against the other.
