Learn by doing! Young artists try their hand at creating their own self-portraits in the style of Vincent van Gogh. This learning exercise contains a brief explanation of the essential qualities of van Gogh's art: complementary colors and distinctive brushstrokes. Then painters follow step by step instructions to create two self-portraits using a photocopies of pictures. As a final, closure activity, students write a letter to a friend analyzing their work, just as van Gogh often did!
