Instructional Ideas

  • Include in a reading assessment at the beginning of the year to determine reading level
  • Have kids complete the activity in a homework packet or literacy center
  • Encourage learners to share their predictions with a partner, comparing their answers based on the same text
  • Replace the text in the passage with excerpts from what you are reading in class, and prompt kids to make predictions in the same way

Classroom Considerations

  • Though the resource is designed for third and fourth graders, it could be helpful for older kids as well
  • Dialogue in the passages are formatted into one paragraph, which might make it hard for some readers to understand

Pros

  • Activity is applicable to any piece of writing in your classroom
  • Helpful as a reading exercise as well as a reading assessment
