May the Force Be With You: Thrust

Students study how propellers and jet turbines generate thrust. This instructional activity focuses on Isaac Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Student teams explore the difference in how jet engines create thrust compared to propeller engines. Some excellent extension activities are imbedded in this plan, which lead to deeper understanding of Newton's 3rd Law.
