Meter in Poetry

A good poem has form and structure built into it. Middle schoolers see that the structure of a poem consists of stanza, form, rhyme, and meter. The structure also contributes to a poem's meaning. After listening to, and discussing, a few poems, learners try their hand at writing a poem that follows a particular structure and theme that is given to them by the teacher. Pupils get together and share their poems to further reinforce these important elements of poetry.
