Microbiology beginners feed different sweetening agents to yeast and measure carbon dioxide production to estimate energy contained in each. They set the trials up in zip-top plastic baggies and then measure gas volume by water displacement. The objective of the activity and teacher preparation notes are complete, but instructions for student procedures are not. Prepare a step-by-step procedure for the experiment so that the amounts of yeast and sweetener are consistent.
