Instructional Ideas

  • Activity best fits after teaching atoms, chemical bonds, and chemical reactions to show application of learners' knowledge

Classroom Considerations

  • Each group needs a fuel cell car kit; the rest of the materials can be found in classroom or at home
  • Every member of the group has a role, so choose groups and assign roles before class begins to maximize time spent on the activity
  • Activity assumes the your class has an understanding atoms, their parts, and chemical bonds; because of this, the activity best suits eighth grade and high school learners

Pros

  • Lesson provides pointers for the molecules and fuel technology kits to assist teachers and a troubleshooting guide
  • Provides group discussion questions to open and close the activity
  • Includes student handouts and keys

Cons

  • None
