Imagine you are a Plains Indian, a nomad getting ready to follow a herd of buffalo. Now imagine what you would have to pack for your trip. Little ones examine images of a traditional parfleche (packing box), and then create packing lists for a nomadic adventure. In small groups, they compare their lists, and, then, as a whole class, they discuss what they packed, why, and what it would be like to live as a nomad.
- Background information and multiple images of a parfleche are included
- The activity would fit nicely into any unit on Native-American lifestyle
