The carrying capacity of an environment varies based on the organisms that live there. Using a virtual lab simulation, scholars test two protists living in their own environments and a third environment where both protists live. They record data and answer analysis questions as they learn about population growth.

Instructional Ideas

  • Review the proper way to prepare and clean a wet slide
  • Have students write their lab data on a paper table and hand draw a graph so they can refer back to it, because the data collection table on the simulation doesn't retain numbers

Classroom Considerations

  • Requires Flash
  • This content requires Adobe Flash to view

Pros

  • Allows pupils to virtually complete a 16-day experiment in one class session
  • Includes intuitive simulation controls
  • Offers the option to print the lesson notes and the learners' answers

Cons

  • None
