Instructional Ideas

  • Have learners try drawing a rough sketch of a world population map prior to showing this resource. Then, have them compare the two maps and reflect on their impressions of the world versus the reality
  • Project a traditional map beside this resource and lead a discussion of how populations compare to each country's land area

Pros

  • Colorful visual that utilizes a mathematical grid to illustrate the world population
  • Offers several cross-curricular opportunities

Cons

  • Some of the smaller print is very difficult to read, but that text is merely identifying sources rather than information related to the population map
