After a stint as ambassador to Russia, Lambton, also know as Lord Durham, was appointed Governor General and High Commissioner of British North America. After displeasing the Crown, he resigned from this role and returned to England. He presented the Durham Report there in 1839, which confronted the issue of conflict between the French and the English in Canada.
