Racing Readers

Students listen as the teacher models both non-fluent and fluent reading and decide which sounds better. They read a book silently to themselves before completing repeated, timed readings. Working with a partner, they complete timed reading and note how many words they read which is noted on a chart. As an assessment, they determine the speed of their first reading and compare it with the last.
