An award-winning architect speaks about the need to rehabilitate underused parking lots, past-their-prime shopping malls, and other structures. She gets us to take a look at successful retrofits and proposes plans to give others a makeover so that these underperforming suburban properties can become useful, sustainable parts of their communities. This would be an inspirational video to show in an architecture elective, an engineering class, or an environmental sciences class. Follow the video with a group project aimed at meeting Next Generation Science Standards for engineering.
