River Rock #4: Breaking Rocks

Fifth graders describe a rock before and after breaking it open. They compose a journal entry of a description of the outside of a basalt rock, break the rock open and continue the entry focusing on the differences that can be observed when the rock is split. Students use hand lenses to make further observations.
