Work on author's purpose with this activity, which focuses on sequence of events and audience as well.  Middle and high schoolers describe the 50 State Quarters Program for background information. After discussing the images on the coins, they are told that they represent important symbols of the state of Washington. The activity transitions to an examination of author's purpose and a study of salmon.
