Science Buddies: Circles, Tangent Lines and Triangles

Curated by ACT

Here is a project that combines Computer Science and Mathematics. The semicircle has two tangent lines that meet at point T. You need to prove that a line drawn from A to T bisects CD. You'll also learn how to create an interactive diagram to illustrate your proof, using an applet that runs in your Web browser. Requires Java.

Tangent Lines and the Radius of a Circle

Curated OER
Your Geometry learners will collaboratively prove that the tangent line of a circle is perpendicular to the radius of the circle. A deliberately sparse introduction allows for a variety of approaches to find a solution.

What is a Tangent Line to a Circle?

Curated OER
This video defines what it means for a line to be tangent to a circle. It also defines the term point of tangency and shows how the radius drawn to the point of tangency is perpendicular to the tangent line.
