Social Class Stereotypes

Encourage your students to think about how and why people and categorized in terms of social class. They decide what "class" they belong to, and then brainstorm about the indicators that society uses to define class and to categorize people. Students work in groups to discuss the characteristics of each class (upper, middle, and working); each groups shares their ideas with the class.

Lesson Planet helps me find fantastic ideas to spin off of and approach with my alternative education high school students. They can be difficult to motivate and sometimes when I'm just out of ideas- this site gives me just what I need to add to motivate them!
