Students review the cover-up and crosscheck method of reading words before practicing rereading to become more fluent readers. They listen as the teacher reads both with and without fluency to determine which is easier to understand. They read "Kite Day at Pine Lake" silently and discuss it for comprehension. Next, working with a partner, they take turns reading with expression and fluency. As an assessment, they read to the teacher while being timed for words per minute.
