In this lesson unit, learners investigate how justice is perceived and addressed in different cultures and times by examining literature from around the world. Texts examined include: The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, A Sport of Nature by Nadine Gordimer, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and Antigone, also by Sophocles. Students analyze complex characters and how their characters are developed, and present oral interpretations. Throughout the unit, they are made aware of word meanings and literary terms and techniques.
