System of Equations for Passing Trains Problem

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Here is a challenging motion problem about two different length trains and how long it takes them to pass each other going in the same direction and opposite directions. At first glance, there doesnÕt seem to be enough information given to solve this problem, but after one starts looking at it closer you can see it has a fairly straight forward solution. In this video, Sal shows a solution that takes a system of two equations and two unknowns.
