Texas Instruments: Numb3 Rs: Pile It On

Curated by ACT

Based off of the hit television show NUMB3RS, this lesson focuses on the age-old problem of whether to accept a large sum of money, or to accept a proposition in which a chessboard is filled with grain (each square getting double the amount of grain as the one prior). The lesson has students figure out, in real-life terms, how much grain will be present after the 64th day, and includes an extension with an excellent link.
