The history of the labor movement in Texas is examined, beginning during the Republic of Texas. The article discusses the different labor organizations that formed in various industries, and how these evolved over time. As immigration increased, new industries and occupations emerged, employer tactics changed, and the economy shifted, different strategies for unionizing workers and retaining members had to be developed, including a greater emphasis on working conditions and environmental concerns.
