William Blake's immortal poem "The Tiger!" launches a study of these magnificent creatures. After a close reading of the poem, class members compare his poem to Blake's artwork. Individuals then choose a favorite tiger species to research and illustrate in realistic detail. As they share their drawings with the class, young artists indicate the qualities Blake describes that fit the tiger they drew.
- Ask pupils to include in the research why their tiger is an endangered species
- Presumes all class members have access to and know how to use the Internet for their research
- Learners research facts about their tiger including where it lives, its habitat, and how it compares in size and appearance to other tigers
