Eighth graders identify the impact of the political and social changes in North Carolina after the Civil War. Using their text, they explain the role of agriculture, textile and tobacco in the area and how it helped economically develop the area. They use their notes to write a fictional biography based on a real person who lived and worked in the tobacco industry.
