Everyone seems to have an opinion on the status and rights of illegal immigrants. Help secondary learners research each perspective and arrive at their own conclusions with a collaborative exercise. Instructional Ideas

  • Use a Smart Board or project the poster onto the whiteboard for learners to attach their notes of agreement or dissent
  • Organize a formal debate based on the question and additional class research

Classroom Considerations

  • Add more steps and substance to each step of the instructions to make the exercise more valuable
  • Be sure to establish a protocol for respectful discussion of controversial topics
  • Although made after the 2008 election, the poster's passage and question are still very relevant today; however, consider updating any outdated statistic

Pros

  • Poster addresses both sides of the debate
  • Prompts the class to work collaboratively

Cons

  • None
