Pupils participate in a pre-reading activity which helps them see what it would be like to live in poverty. For this reading comprehension lesson, students make a list of items they take on a trip considering they have very limited funds. Pupils then discuss their decisions regarding items of choice and their difficulties in buying other items. Students will relate the pre-reading activity to the book A Tree Brows in Brooklyn.
